Pollsters overturn data publication restrictions

INDONESIA— Some good news for Indonesian pollsters for once – the country’s constitutional court has ruled in favour of allowing them to publish exit poll results after ballots close in next week’s presidential elections.
According to the Jakarta Post, the court has annulled articles of the 2008 presidential election law that banned any publication of survey findings before the General Elections Commission issues the official vote tally.
The ruling marks a significant victory for the profession, which has been subject to much criticism in the run up to voting on Wednesday.
Pollsters have faced accusations of inaccuracy and bias in the results of their surveys of voting intentions, leading to calls for tougher rules to govern their activities.
