Jicims to be relaunched as UKOM

New UK online measurement body plans to deliver planning currency next year

UK-- The Joint Industry Committee for Internet Measurement Systems is to be relaunched as the UK Online Measurement company, after backers decided they could not fund a full-scale joint committee.

It was announced last week that the Jicims project had been abandoned, and that ISBA and IPA, which represent advertisers, were pulling out, leaving the IAB and AOP, which represent media owners, to take the project forward.

The company will continue pursuing the Jicims' aim of delivering an industry-approved online planning currency, in accordance with the specification already agreed by the Jicims board. It plans to go to market with a revised tender in the first quarter of 2009.

Instead of trying to establish a new panel from scratch, the body may now choose to form a partnership with one of the existing online audience measurement firms.

AOP board member Bill Murray said: “The speed with which we have brought the revised operation to life, and shared the ambitious timetable we aim to meet, is demonstration of our determination to deliver the immense value and benefit of a unified internet measurement and planning currency to UK media as soon as possible during 2009.”
