Indonesian pollsters plan standards body
INDONESIA-- Pollsters in Indonesia are to form an association to ensure standards in public opinion research, reports The Jakarta Post.
The move is designed to bolster public trust in the survey process and to stave off legislative threats.
According to the report, trust in polling has been waning because surveys often end up reporting different results when all pollsters claim to use the same methodology.
The issue came to a head in December when the General Elections Commission called on agencies to register their legal status, their affiliations and their funding sources “so people can judge and understand their survey results better”.
