Indonesian pollsters accepting regulations
INDONESIA-- Resistance to recently introduced election regulations in Indonesia is fading as pollsters being to comply with new laws introduced by the country's General Elections Commission (KPU).
Pollsters reacted angrily when they were told at the end of 2008 that they would have to register with the government body to carry out opinion polls and exit surveys for this year's general election.
More than 20 organisations formed an association to oppose the regulations but were unsuccessful when the KPU refused to budge, from its stance earlier this month.
The pollsters have now seemingly waved the white flag and the Jakarta Globe reports that three pollsters and eight election observers have registered with the KPU and a further eight polling companies have indicated that they will sign up.
