Google gets to know Tamil internet users

‘Internet bus' will raise awareness of the internet among rural population

INDIA-- Google is sending out an ‘internet bus' to the Tamil Nadu region of India to raise awareness of the web among rural Tamils, and gather feedback on the relevance and usability of content.

The bus will tour 15 towns over 45 days, demonstrating content such as search engines, online newspapers, email and online maps, according to the Economic Times.

Prasad Ram, Google's head of R&D in India, said that 19% of India's internet content is in the Tamil language.

Ram said Google would consider sharing findings from the project with the government, the Business Standard reported.
