GfK NOP closes last North American call centre

Closure represents ‘last step in a three year move to outsourcing', according to Jeff Sperring, head of operations for GfK Custom Research North America

GfK NOP is to close its last fully owned and operated call centre in North America, in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The Alamogordo Opinion Center will close on 14 May.

Jeff Sperring, head of operations for GfK Custom Research North America told Research: "The closing is the last step of a three year strategic initiative to move our telephone data collection to an outsource model.

"This strategy was implemented to address not only our decreased use but the industry's decreased use of telephone data collection."

Sperring said the new approach of working with partners around the globe was "more fiscally sound" and would provide better value.

"It transfers a large fixed cost to a variable cost," he said. "We also feel that utilizing high-quality vendors that are dedicated to the telephone data collection arena provides us with partners that are better equipped, staffed, and focused [on] providing us the highest value possible."

There will be no downtime in the transfer of operations to GfK's partners, Sperring said.

According to local reports, around 60 part time and five full time jobs will be lost when the Alamogordo Opinion Center closes.

Sperring said: "Most of the staff will not be retained."
