French mobile companies plan joint internet ratings
FRANCE-- Mobile operators in France will unite to create an audience measurement tool for mobile internet.
Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom are all backing the project through mobile media association AFMM, together with Geste, which represents online publishers, and Acsel, which represents online retailers.
Setting up the system is expected to cost €3m over three years.
Because the system will be based on logs of individuals' internet activity, rather than relying on a panel, it will require the three operators to standardise and anonymise their data, and will need to be examined by the French data privacy commission.
The AFMM hopes to select a supplier for the new system in the first quarter of this year, and to have it up and running by the end of the year.
