Wikipedia data analysis platform gets $5m investment

Financials North America

US— WibiData, a company whose data management and analysis platform is used by Wikipedia to understand the behaviour of its contributors, has raised $5m in venture capital funding.

Other early users of the platform, which is still in beta, are RichRelevance, the developer of a personalisation engine for online retailers, and Atlassian, which sells project tracking, collaboration and developer tools to website owners.

Funds raised come from New Enterprise Associates and Google chairman Eric Schmidt. WibiData co-founder Christophe Bisciglia is a former Google software engineer.

WibiData was launched in 2010 and is designed to be used by companies with large data sets who want to manage and understand the mass of information they hold about customers and their online interactions.
