News UK

UK — Facebook remains the number one global network but half of members in the UK and US are using it less frequently than they previously did, according to GlobalWebIndex (GWI) research.

The drop in frequency is even higher among teenagers with 64% of 16- to 19-year-olds using the network less often. According to the research, reasons given for declining use include members being less interested than they used to be ( 45% overall, 54% for teens), they’re bored of it ( 37%, up to 50% for teens) and that it’s not as cool as it used to be ( 18%, climbing to 27% for teens).

However Facebook remains the top social app overall, used by 43% of internet users.

As multi-networking flourishes, smaller, more specialist platforms like Pinterest, Instagram and Tumblr are growing. Snapchat is the fastest growing app – up 56% since start of 2014 and particularly popular with the teen demographic.

GWI involves interviews with more than 170,000 users across 32 markets.
