Crown Prosecution Service to review BT's Phorm trials

CPS to ‘decide whether an offence has taken place'

UK-- The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is to look into BT's secret trialling of the controversial Phorm online targeted advertising software.

A CPS spokesman told Research: “We will look at the evidence and decide whether an offence has taken place. If it has, we will take over the prosecution.”

He said that the CPS was waiting to receive evidence from the City of London Police, who had previously investigated the trials but decided against taking any action.

BT performed two secret trials of the Phorm software, which tracks the websites a user has visited and matches them with relavant adverts, in 2006.
