AKP&D sale makes Axelrod $2.1m
US-- President Barack Obama's senior advisor David Axelrod stands to make $2.1m from selling his stake in opinion research and political consulting firm, AKP&D Message and Media.
The money will be paid in instalments over the next four years, according to his official White House public financial disclosure form.
Axelrod sold his share of the company to Obama's director of paid media and opinion research, Larry Grisolano, and two partners at the firm after taking a role with the new president.
The other two buyers, John Kupper and John Del Cecato (the ‘K' and ‘D' in the firm's name), also carried out research for Obama's campaign and wrote several of its ads.
Axelrod received an annual salary of $897,000 from AKP&D.
He will also pocket up to $1m from selling his stake in political campaign and research agency ASK Public Strategies to John Kupper and the firm's co-founder Eric Sedler, which will be paid over five years.
The same firm also paid him a partnership income of $152,000 for last year.
