‘Solid' first quarter growth at Chime Communications

Signs point to improved performance in research division

UK-- Research agency owner Chime Communications has reported an 18% jump in pre-tax profits to £4.8m during the first quarter of 2009.

Operating income was 13% higher than Q1 2008 and operating profit margin increased to 17.2%. The firm did not go into greater detail about the results, or break them down to show how its research operations were performing.

Chime's research arm recorded a 10% drop in annual revenue for 2008, but the situation has shown signs of improving in the first part of this year. A source close to the company told Research that the division's performance was “better, but not dramatically so”.

The marketing communications group owns research agencies Opinion Leader, Brand Democracy and Facts International.

Lord Tim Bell, chairman of Chime Communications, said: “We have had a strong first quarter and we are confident about achieving our first half year expectations.”
