Trout (pictured) was previously managing director of digital advertising platform Exponential and has also worked at EMAP, Sky and ITV.

Smith has relocated to LA to head Unruly’s American expansion on the west coast.

In addition, Unruly’s UK commercial director Genna Osler has been promoted to UK managing director. Before joining Unruly, Osler, who has more than a decade’s experience in digital media, worked at Unanimis (premium ad network) and Advertising.com (part of AOL).

Unruly CEO Sarah Wood said: “Jason brings over three decades of experience in leadership and operations roles spanning across TV, radio, publishing, digital content, business events and the ad tech sector.

“He will play a crucial role in propelling Unruly into the future as we continue to deliver wow for advertisers, grow Unruly’s programmatic offering and extend our premium media footprint.”

Trout said: “The recent launch of Home – which offers a glimpse at how brands can engage consumers in the connected home – is only a taste of what’s to come. Unruly is a forward-thinking, innovative company with its sights set on the horizon.”

Unruly has offices in London, Hamburg, Stockholm and Oslo. It was bought by News Corp in 2015.
